Why Marriedtodoctors Exists

Marriedtodoctors is a small independent blog for the partners, spouses and families of people who practise medicine. Hospital rotas, call weekends, long training years and sudden schedule changes shape a household in ways that few general relationship or money guides ever mention. This site was started to talk about that life plainly.

Who reads it

Readers include the partner of a resident who has just matched, the spouse of a surgeon who misses most dinners, and couples where both people wear scrubs. Some are at the very start of a medical career together, and others are well into it and looking for a fresh view on an old strain.

Three areas of focus

  • Physician Marriages looks at communication, shared expectations, loneliness, moving for training posts and keeping a partnership steady when one calendar rules the other.
  • Family Finances covers the money questions that come with large training debts, a late jump in income, budgeting around irregular pay and planning for children.
  • Work-Life Balance explores call schedules, rest, childcare logistics, holidays that actually happen and the shared load at home.

How articles are put together

The aim is practical writing a couple can discuss over coffee and act on that week. Where an article touches on facts, such as how loan repayment plans work or what research says about shift work and sleep, it is checked against official guidance, published studies and reputable references. When advice depends on personal circumstances, the article says so.

Money rules, hospital policies and working-hour norms change, so older pages are revisited and revised when they no longer hold.

A note on perspective

Every marriage is different, and nothing here claims to fit all of them. The articles offer ideas and questions to consider, not a script.
